Meles Zenawi denies and accused Martin Plaut of BBC
In the past week, the BBC World Service has broadcasts that millions of aid money was diverted by TPLF to buy weapons. (Listen BBC’s report). Few days ago, Bob Geldof denies aid was spent on weapons and now the head of TPLF supported him, “it is false accusation” he said, “I met Bob Geldof in Nairobi, he is disappointed. We can criticize BBC and also raise questions over Martin Plaut… even though this journalist has a tendency to distance himself from Eritrea, we know him that Martin Plaut used to be supporter of Eritrea/Shabiya during the war time.” (Listen to Zenawi’s message to journalists abroad)

Futile attempt at outsourcing-the Ethiopian dilemma
By Yilma Bekele - I was proud. I was walking tall. I was happy to see my friend. That day the usual two minutes greetings took forever. I was in a hurry to share the source of my joy and pride. If only I knew how wrong I was. I announced that I was on my way back from a celebration. She asked what about. And I was proud to say the commemoration of the battle of Adwa. You know where the African beat a European power, that Adwa, I said. More »

Implications, Sudan’s Rejection of UN Sanction on Eritrea
By Amanuel Biedemariam - President Omar Hassen Al-Beshir of Sudan conducted a quick visit with his Eritrean counterpart President Isaias Afwerki in Eritrea. At face value, it could appear easy for those who want to demonize and try to dismiss the significance of the visit. They can try minimizing it as insignificant because of President mar Hassen Al-Beshir’s standing with the International Criminal Court (ICC) as well as the sanction measure in place against the people of Sudan. They could try portraying these regional powers in a bad light. However, the visit, their meeting and the outright rejection by Sudan of the UNjust sanction resolution 1907 is sending a shockwaves for Ethiopia, IGAD and the USA. Here is why: More »

Court Orders Publishers to Pay Highest Ever Fine
The TPLF Supreme Court today ruled against four independent media houses, forcing them to pay fines that were originally rendered void under a 2007 pardon. The four publishing companies, Serkalem, Sisay, Zekarias and Fasil must now pay a total of 295,000 Birr (approx. €16,100) - more than the average Ethiopian would earn in a century, according to income figures from the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
